It was a fantastic weekend at the British Championships for Putney gymnast, Georgie Forbes. She came away with the gold medal and is the British Champion in women’s 13-14 Tumbling for the second year in a row.

Georgie will travel to Portugal as part of the GB team next week to compete in a World Cup event and then to Russia in November to compete in the World Age Group Championships. She told this website: "I'm really pleased with how the competition went this weekend. My gold medal makes spending the summer holidays in the gym worthwhile. I'm now really looking forward to competing as part of the British team at the World Cup in Loule, Portugal, next week and then in Russia at the World Age Groups in November.”

Kath Small, Georgie's coach said: “Georgie has worked really hard this season to master new and harder tumbles which she executed really well under enormous pressure at the British Championships to take gold. Her win is thoroughly deserved and particularly pleasing as this is actually the third successive year that she has won the British title."

Headmistress, Suzie Longstaff said, “Well done Georgie for all your hard work over the summer and for managing to balance your school work and gym commitments so admirably”.

What is tumbling?
Tumbling is a form of acrobatic activity that involves flips, jumps, rolls, somersaults and handsprings linked together into performance routines and usually performed on a padded floor and choreographed to music. In many ways, a tumbling routine is similar to the floor exercise in gymnastics, although it does not include as many elements of formal dance. Unlike the other elements of gymnastics, tumbling uses no special equipment such as a vault or pommel horse.
