Georgie Forbes delivers at the Junior World Championships

Bronze for Georgie Forbes at the Junior World Championships 2017

After a personal best (PB) in the Algarve in October Georgie Forbes was invitated to represent Great Britain at the Junior World Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria last week.

Georgie flew to Sofia, Bulgaria where she won the bronze medal in the girls 13-14 age group. There were 35 girls in the age group; with two runs i the prelims the ncompetitors were reduced to the top eight and then they had only one run each to be ther best. It was a really competitive competition and she was really pleased just the make the final -she was in the top 8 after the prelim rounds, so to win a medal was the icing on the cake. She finished behind very strong Russian and French girls and produced another PB to secure bronze.

On Instagram Georgie said: “I had an amazing time in Bulgaria with the British team. I’m so happy with the outcome of the competition. Third in the world! Thank you so much to everyone for all their support: my amazing coaches, family, friends and teachers.”

GB Coach Kath Small from Richmond Gymnastics Association said: "Georgie had a brilliant competition and really delivered her best tumbles when it counted. It was a really strong field this year with some extremely talented gymnasts so I’m so happy that Georgie kept her cool and executed what we knew she was capable of. It’s been a really great season for her and she really deserves the bronze medal after all her hard work and commitment. I couldn’t be happier for her".

Being a member of TeamGB is a bit of a habit in the Fores household, Robyn, Georgie's mother was was in the GB team from 1989 - 1998. From Juniors while at LEH through to the senior team for 5 years. Robyn was in various crews over the years with career best of 2nd place in Lightweight women’s 4- in 1995 and 1996 World Championship.

Dad, Stuart was also in GB team through the 1980’s in the GB Lightweight men’s team with a brief stint, coming out of retirement in 1996, which is how Robyn and he met! He won a number of World silvers and bronze medals in the Mens Lightwight 4- and Mens Lighweight 2x and gold at the 1986 Commonwealth games in the men’s lightweight 4-.

What next for Georgie? Back to Putney with a bump, as Georgie's father told PutneySW15: "It's time to catchup on some schoool work now!"

Georgie is at Putney High School, where headmistress Suzi Longstaff commented on Georgie's news: "We are beyond delighted for her. She is such a talented athlete, role model and inspiration to us all at Putney High School. We are very proud of her".



Tumbling is a form of acrobatic activity that involves flips, jumps, rolls, somersaults and handsprings linked together into performance routines and usually performed on a padded floor and choreographed to music. In many ways, a tumbling routine is similar to the floor exercise in gymnastics, although it does not include as many elements of formal dance. Unlike the other elements of gymnastics, tumbling uses no special equipment such as a vault or pommel horse.
