A new solo exhibition from mixed-media artist Laura Parker will open at BobCat Gallery in Putney this autumn, marking a milestone in her twenty-five-year career.

The show, titled Mysteries, runs from 2 to 24 October and is the first time the Richmond-based artist, now aged 74, has presented an entire body of work on her own.

Laura is a self-taught artist with a background in the History of Art, and her practice has evolved through a striking variety of styles and subjects. Over the years she has moved between representational landscapes, expressive abstracts, intimate still lifes and dramatic underwater scenes. Her recent work centres on multi-layered acrylic and mixed-media paintings, created through a process of building, scraping back, adding and subtracting — a method that gives each piece a sense of depth, movement and hidden narrative.

The natural world has long been a driving force in Laura’s work, particularly the flow and restlessness of water. In her current abstract pieces she explores what can be revealed or concealed within a painting, creating a quiet tension between calm and flux, clarity and mystery. The exhibition brings together highlights from across her career, offering visitors a chance to trace the thread that runs through her practice and the risks she has taken to push her work forward.

Although Laura has exhibited widely in group shows in London and across the UK — and internationally in New York and New Jersey — Mysteries is her first solo presentation. The exhibition will be the spotlight display at BobCat Gallery throughout October, alongside work from other artists, and will also form part of Wandsworth Artists Open House, with additional Sunday openings on 4 and 11 October.

BobCat Gallery is located upstairs at Putney Exchange and is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10.30am to 6pm, with Mondays available by appointment. .

Mysteries offers an opportunity to see a rich and varied collection from an artist whose work continues to evolve, and whose curiosity and willingness to experiment remain central to her practice.
