Soprano Iuno Connolly to Perform at Knitting Concert
Programme mixes classical, folk-songs and stage tunes

All Saints’ Church on Putney Common will host one of its most distinctive musical traditions later this month, as the 2026 Knitting Concerts return on Sunday 27 September at 6pm. The format is as charmingly unorthodox as ever: audience members are invited to knit, read, draw — or simply listen — while soprano Iúnó Connolly and pianist Robert Bridge perform a programme of English, French and stage songs.
Bridge says he is delighted to welcome Connolly back to Putney. “It’s a great treat to have the Irish soprano Iúnó Connolly coming to sing — albeit with me at the piano — at the end of September,” he said.
Many local concert-goers will remember her appearance with the 1885 Singers earlier this year, when she sang the soprano solo in the Brahms Requiem and a set of Richard Strauss songs.
This month’s recital will showcase Connolly’s versatility across several traditions. The programme includes French mélodie by Georges Bizet and Reynaldo Hahn, English songs and folk-song settings by John Ireland and Benjamin Britten, and a selection of songs from the stage — among them Ivor Novello’s We’ll Gather Lilacs and Cole Porter’s witty The Song of the Oyster.
The Knitting Concerts have become a popular fixture at All Saints’, offering a relaxed, informal atmosphere that encourages audiences to enjoy music in whatever way suits them.
Admission is free, with a retiring collection.
