Residents Urged to Get Involved with the Borough of Culture

Putney’s MP, Fleur Anderson, who was in attendance has urged residents to get involved in a year of cultural events across the borough which will provide range of opportunities to experience music, dance and the arts.

She said, "It was a real joy to see the dancers, orchestra, artists and performers at Battersea Arts Centre. This award is a fantastic opportunity to showcase local talent, celebrate our diverse heritage, and ensure that culture is accessible to all. The year-long programme includes landmark events such as Strictly Wandsworth, the Wandsworth Arts Fringe, and the Battersea Park In Concert series, providing something for everyone to enjoy.

“I encourage all residents to take part, whether by attending events, volunteering, or contributing to community projects."

The 2025 programme promises something for everyone, with highlights including:

• Strictly Wandsworth (26 April) – A mass dance spectacle featuring 200 dancers from local groups, led by celebrated choreographer Jeanefer Jean-Charles MBE.

• Wandsworth Arts Fringe (6-22 June) – A borough-wide celebration of grassroots creativity, with increased funding and new collaborations.

• *Battersea Park In Concert (23-25 August) – A three-day open-air music festival featuring the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Jools Holland, and emerging local talent.

• Liberty Festival (26-28 September) – A flagship event celebrating the work of D/deaf, disabled, and neurodivergent artists, ensuring that inclusivity is at the heart of the programme.

Wandsworth Borough of Culture 2025 will also introduce new cultural initiatives, such as The Wandsworth Way, a local radio drama project, and Our Music, Our Freedom, a celebration of the borough’s rich musical heritage.

The programme is designed to be inclusive, with events taking place across the borough in libraries, parks, and community hubs, ensuring that everyone can participate.

Ms Anderson added, "Culture has the power to bring communities together, boost mental wellbeing, and create opportunities for young people. This programme will make the arts accessible to everyone in Wandsworth, and I look forward to seeing residents from all backgrounds getting involved and making this a truly special year."
