Putney MP responds to Met moving out of special measures
February 3, 2025 Putney’s MP Fleur Anderson has given praise to local police officers following the news that the Metropolitan Police Service has moved out of special measures after two and a half years The Met was placed under enhanced monitoring in 2022 due to serious concerns raised by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary, Fire & Rescue Services. Since then, she says officers and staff have worked tirelessly to address these issues, improving emergency response times, strengthening child protection, tackling serious crimes, and rebuilding trust in local communities. There has also been increased support for victims of crime, and a renewed focus on tackling child exploitation and domestic violence. A strengthened neighbourhood policing model has also been introduced, with 500 additional officers and staff working more closely with local communities. Ms Anderson added, "This is a major step forward for policing in London, and I want to thank the hardworking officers across Wandsworth for their dedication to making our communities safer. Residents deserve a police force they can trust, and these improvements will help ensure they receive the best possible service. “I meet regularly with the Borough Commander and local officers across Putney and can attest to their determination to serve our communities, to listen and learn what the needs of communities are. While there is still more to do, I welcome this progress and will continue working closely with the Met to ensure safety remains a priority for everyone in Putney, Roehampton, Southfields and Wandsworth Town." “I encourage all residents to find out about their Safer Neighbour Team. These local officer teams bring together residents and local institutions to work on ways to keep our streets safer. I was concerned by recent news of car, scooter, bike and mobile phone thefts, particularly around Southfields and West Hill, and have asked the police teams to look into these incidents and work with residents on prevention measures and solutions. The teams also host events like bike marking and crime prevention stalls.” Up coming events organised by the police locally: Roehampton West Putney Check here for dates, locations and times The annual public meeting of the Safer Neighbourhood Board in the Wandsworth Council chamber is on Wednesday 8 October and is an opportunity for residents to question senior police and council officers and voice their concerns.
