Nineteen year old Lloyd Edwards who had admitted killing and pleaded guilty in September to the manslaughter of 51-year-old mother of two on 29th September 2006 was found guilty of Murder at Kingston Crown Court today.

Edwards claimed that he had entered the building in Roehampton with the intention to burgle but when he was confronted by Mrs Rezk he launched in to a violent attack resulting in severe brain damage, deep cuts, bruising and fractures. He admitted to drinking all day prior to the attack.

The jury was told that her injuries suggested she had been repeatedly punched in the face and that her head had been smashed against a wall.

She was discovered by her son and daughter who were in their early twenties and was still breathing however she fell into a coma from which she never recovered and died the following day in St Georges Hospital.

DCI Phil Adams said:

"He has taken away a lovely lady, a wife and a mother who will be sorely missed. Although he claims not to have known he had killed her until he read about it in a national newspaper, he has shown no remorse. Indeed, he went out only two days after the incident to burgle a house, for which he has been convicted.

"Edwards has been in trouble with the police since the age of 10 and had a propensity for violence. It was always possible that someone, some day was going to be seriously injured by him. Sadly, it resulted in the death of Laila Rezk."
