Complements existing offering with live-out carer option
May 26, 2026 A Putney-based social enterprise has launched a new home-support service designed to help people live safely and comfortably in their own homes. Helpful HomeSupport, delivered by Unity Living, has been created by the founders of Share and Care Homeshare, which claims to be the UK’s largest and most experienced homeshare provider. The new service is intended to complement their existing model by offering flexible, live-out support for people who either need more day-to-day help than a homesharer can provide or who do not have a spare room to host one. Helpful HomeSupport has been developed in response to a growing local need for practical, trustworthy assistance at home. It is aimed at older residents, people with disabilities, those recovering from illness or surgery, and anyone who would benefit from companionship, reassurance or an extra pair of hands. Founders Caroline Cooke and Amanda Clarke say the idea grew directly from their twenty years of experience running Share and Care Homeshare, during which they saw how many people in their community needed flexible, accessible support to continue living well and independently. The service offers tailored, live-out help shaped around each person’s lifestyle. This can include cleaning, shopping, preparing meals, accompanying people to appointments, walking the dog or simply spending time together over a cup of tea. For those returning home after a short hospital stay, overnight support is also available to provide reassurance during the transition back to everyday life. Central to the model is continuity and trust: each client is introduced to one fully vetted HomeSupporter who gets to know their home, routines and preferences, ensuring a familiar and reliable presence rather than a series of short, rushed visits. Caroline Cooke and Amanda Clarke describe Helpful HomeSupport as a natural extension of their long-standing community work. They say they have seen repeatedly how transformative the right kind of support can be, particularly when it is rooted in relationships rather than time-pressured tasks. Their aim is to keep people connected to their neighbourhoods, support independence and ensure that individuals can continue living safely and happily in their own homes. They emphasise that the service is designed to be practical, cost-effective and grounded in the local areas they know well. been created to be flexible and person-centred, responding to what people actually need and when they need it, while remaining affordable and community-focused. It also offers opportunities for local residents to become HomeSupporters themselves and make a positive difference in their area. Anyone interested in receiving support, or in registering as a HomeSupporter, can find more information at helpfulhomesupport.co.uk or by calling 0203 983 0809.
