Roehampton Residents Honoured at Wandsworth Civic Awards |

Winners working for both ends of the age spectrum
November 14, 2025 Local heroes from Putney and Roehampton were among those recognised at this year’s Wandsworth Civic Awards, which celebrate residents who have made outstanding contributions to their communities—often without recognition or reward. The ceremony, held earlier this month, marked an expanded programme with eleven categories, reflecting the breadth of nominations and the strength of grassroots work across the borough. Mayor of Wandsworth Jeremy Ambache praised the winners for their “bravery, compassion and understanding,” describing the awards as the highest honour the council can bestow. “All our nominees work tirelessly to support some of the most vulnerable among us,” he said, “and their impressive commitment, expertise, and effort transforms lives every day.” Among the winners was Pamela Harris, whose work in Roehampton earned her the Community Champion (Supporting People) award. For more than a decade, Pamela has run the weekly 60+ Café on the Alton Estate, providing a vital social lifeline for older residents. Her involvement in the Roehampton Trust, the Roehampton Voice newsletter, and the Our Roehampton initiative has helped strengthen local networks and amplify community voices. Also recognised in the same category was Fozia Riaz, whose Happy Homes organisation supports South Asian families and other residents through practical help, creative engagement, and sustainability education. Fozia’s work was praised for its inclusivity and deep social impact, offering everything from digital support to community events that foster connection and confidence. In the Young Person of the Year category, Roehampton’s Lamees Bazuti was honoured for her leadership and advocacy. Despite facing health challenges, Lamees has played a key role in shaping youth services in the area, including the Wandsworth Youth Bus and the new Block A youth space. As a Young Ambassador for three years, she has empowered other young people to speak up on local issues and helped design services that reflect their needs. The full list of winners includes individuals working in charity, culture, environmental action and community building. From food redistribution and mental health support to intergenerational centres and inclusive arts education, the awards showcase the diversity of local leadership and the importance of grassroots efforts in shaping a stronger borough. 2025 Wandsworth Civic Award winners and runners-up by category: Bravery Award
