Police officers from Wandsworth borough received an unusual call out last Friday (27 January) when they received a report of a swan landing on Putney Bridge.

Although the bird had stationed itself on the pavement there were concerns for its safety and the possibility of a traffic accident with congestion building in the evening rush hour.

The swan was secured with specialist equipment provided by the Bird Rescue team of London Wildlife Protection and, along with the police officers, they managed to get it to a place of safety.

The local police team described the operation as ‘quacking good work’.
