The council has turned down a proposal to build 14 flats on a garden centre site in Dryburgh Road, Putney.

Councillors at last night's planning applications committee (April 16) said the scheme would be an overdevelopment of the site and would fail to preserve or enhance the character of the conservation area.

Fairdare Properties want to build 14 flats on the site which has a history of previous residential permissions.

The current permission granted in December 2000 provides for 10 flats or five houses.

What will happen now? Will the application be modified not only in size but in suitability to the surrounding area?
