Free Christmas Tree Recycling | |||
Just leave it out on your normal collection day
The council is encouraging residents to have a green Christmas by taking advantage of the borough's doorstep recycling services over the festive period. Wrapping paper, Christmas cards and envelopes, drinks cans, glass bottles, jars, juice cartons and plastic bottles can all be placed in recycling sacks – but metallic 'foil' style wrapping paper should not be added. All households included in the borough’s clear sack recycling service should receive a fresh batch of sacks delivered to their doorsteps before the end of this month. If people do not receive them, or run out, they can order more online at www.wandsworth.gov.uk/getmoresacks. Residents in blocks of flats, who do not have an individual doorstep refuse collection can place recyclable items in the communal recycling banks that have been placed on housing estates. Christmas tree recycling
Trees will be collected from people’s front gardens on their refuse and recycling collection days between Monday, January 5 and Friday, January 16. Residents with front gardens should place any trees for collection alongside their dustbins and recycling sacks. Those without front gardens can place them on the pavement directly in front of their home but only if it does not cause an obstruction. These trees should not be left out for collection any earlier than 6.30pm on the day before the collection is due. This year there will be changes to the normal refuse and recycling collection days: Services will operate as normal on Tuesday 30 December (today) and New Years Eve but the collections on Thursday 1 January and Friday 2 January will both run the following day. Leftover food cannot be recycled and should be put in with normal rubbish. For tips on how to avoid wasting excess food go to www.lovefoodhatewaste.com.
