Taras Nykolyn has pleaded guilty to manslaughter by diminished responsibility after a fellow prisoner at HMP Wandsworth died last May.

46-year-old Nykolyn appeared at the Old Bailey last week.

His plea follows an incident inside HMP Wandsworth at approximately 7.35am on 4 May 2015, which resulted in the death of fellow prisoner Wadid Barsoum.

Nykolyn also pleaded guilty to one count of inflicting grievous bodily harm on Roger Maxwell, during an incident on Wimbledon Common on 19 June 2014. Taras Nykolyn was being held in Wandsworth Prison for this attack, when the incident resulting in Wadid Barsoum's death occured.

Mr Maxwell, the man who was attacked on Wimbledon Common, was admitted to hospital with a facial injury.

Taras Nykolyn will be sentenced at the Old Bailey on Friday 22 January.
