A special ‘thank you’ event has been held for Wandsworth residents whose volunteer work during the Olympics and Paralympics made London 2012 such a success.

The council arranged the celebration to thank borough-based volunteers for their hard work during the Games - whether they were games makers, torch relay participants, London Ambassadors, Local Leaders, ball boys and ball girls or even athletes.

The event, which was hosted by the Mayor of Wandsworth, saw 200 guests gather in the Civic Suite on Monday evening (April 15th) - where they were treated to performances from the Games Maker Choir.

Wandsworth's mayor, Councillor Adrian Knowles, said: "We wanted to say a big thank you to all of the borough's volunteers for coming together for the common good and using their skills and enthusiasm to help make last summer's games a spectacular success.

"Their volunteering is very much part of the 'can do' ethos which has always been evident in Wandsworth.

"I hope the experience encourages them to consider volunteering for other activities in the future."

Attendees on the night received the mayor's badge for volunteers, as a permanent reminder of the borough's gratitude.

The names of Wandsworth's volunteers will also be added to the mayor's 'Roll of Honour'.
