A Festival of Waywards, Walkabouts and Wallaroos
This year’s Wandsworth Fringe is promising to be the biggest yet, with a schedule of over 70 different listings of pop up performances, picnics, plays, comedy, cabaret, talks and tea parties.
The third annual, borough-wide festival takes place from May 1 – 17 May and is aiming to provide something for everyone.
Cath Mattos, Producer, Wandsworth Fringe said: "Wandsworth Fringe is growing fast into a vibrant festival of fringe arts worthy of attention across the borough and beyond. This year we’ve almost doubled the number of acts taking part – from amateurs to professionals, indoors and outdoors, covering all corners of the borough."
Two new venue hubs are welcomed this year, both busy with Fringe activity - The Bedford Pub, Balham and Four Thieves Ballroom, Battersea. Events include the following...
• The Paul Dunton Orchestra live with Sophie Janes - Paul Dunton leads his own unique cross-over orchestra providing a rousing and atmospheric mix of alternative and pop with a classical twist
Moving outside, there are plenty of eclectic and inclusive activities taking place in outdoor spaces across the borough including:
• A bicycle-powered Comedy of Errors and Macbeth outside The Pump House Gallery, Battersea Park by The Handlebards all-male troupe of players who have toured the show across Europe by bicycle
• The BIG ART PICNIC an afternoon of creative picnicking in Heathbrook Park with guest acts from The Bureau of Silly Ideas
A South African showcase including drumming, healing and singing at The Four Thieves, Battersea:
Wonderful hidden surprise acts are to be revealed in the wide range of cabaret, comedy and variety shows, including:
• An EdinburApril 6, 2015s of on-tap ale, brewed on site in a micro brewery, for free with the ticket price
• An invitation to follow a new language of movement instructions at Southside Shopping Centre devised by students from West Hill primary school with artists Pencil & Help and CoDa Dance, a Pump House Gallery Commission supported by festival sponsors, Southside Shopping Centre
The 150th anniversary of Alice in Wonderland is celebrated with a special Mad Hatter’s Tea Party from arts group Fantasy High Street and a new adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s classic tale produced by Tooting based Blackshaw Theatre Company
Wandsworth Fringe is co-ordinated by Wandsworth Arts Team in collaboration with a steering group of local representatives and independent Fringe Producer, Cath Mattos who is also Projects Director at World Festival Network and World Fringe.
Meet the programme contributors and artists themselves and watch some exclusive performances at a Launch Party on Friday 1st May at The Doodle Bar and Testbed1 at 33 Parkgate Road, Battersea, SW11 4NP. The event will be open to the public from 6-9pm.
