|Summer Sports Activities For Kids In Battersea Park
Thanks to the Battersea Crime Prevention Panel charity
Children and young people will once again be able to enjoy some great sporting activities in Battersea Park during the school summer holidays, thanks to a local crime busting charity.
From Tuesday July 30th to Friday August 2nd, young people aged between eight and 16 can enjoy a range of activities thanks to the Battersea Crime Prevention Panel's Summer Scheme and generous sponsorship and support from a range of local companies and organisations, including the council, Met Police and the army.
The sporting attractions include tennis, judo, football, tennis, archery, tag rugby, rowing and boxing.
One of the sporting highlights will be on Thursday August 1st when Olympic stars Linford Christie and Darren Campbell will be running a street athletics tournament, consisting of a series of 60m races for each age group. The winners of each age group will qualify for the National Final in Manchester in September.
Other activities include circus skills, trapeze climbing wall and an army assault course as well as arts, music, fashion and dance plus workshops run by The National Youth Theatre on Wednesday July 31st and Friday August 2nd.
The aim is to provide young people with constructive, interesting and worthwhile activities during the school holiday and encourage good citizenship.
The scheme has been running every year since 1992 and as well as providing safe activities to keep young people occupied and engaged in the summer holidays, and prevent them from becoming victims of crime, it also provides a welcome lifeline to families on lower incomes who may be unable to afford more costly leisure activities for their children.
The scheme is held at Battersea Park's Millennium Arena and begins every day at 11.30am and continues until 4.30pm. Entry per day is just £1 and there is no need to book a place
