Summer is the perfect time to try out (or rediscover) cycling to work, to the local shops, to school, the library, to visit friends or just for fun.

The cycling-celebrations kick off with a Cycle Corner at the Wandle Valley Festival (www.wandlevalleyfestival.org.uk) in King George’s Park (near the Wandle Recreation Centre) on the 6th of June from 11am – 5pm. Bring your bike along for free safety checks and security marking. Race your friends on static racing cycles, and don’t forget to pick up your local cycle maps and giveaways.

Free ‘Dr Bike’ Safety Checks will be held in St Mary’s Church Square on Putney High Street on the Wednesdays 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th of June from 6-8pm. Dr Bike then moves to the Balham Sainsbury’s car park every Wednesday evening in July and August from 6-8pm.

You can also learn how to keep your bicycle in good working order by taking part in a free beginners’ Bicycle Maintenance Class. Classes are held every Saturday afternoon in June and July in Tooting. Phone (020) 8871 7983 to book a place.
