The Council will be opening a brand new play space and officially reopens another seven following major redevelopments.

A fun packed event will take place at every one of the new-look venues between June 1 – 9, including children’s entertainers and games for all the family.

The creation of an all new play space at York Gardens has been paid for by The Big Lottery Fund and the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF).  It boasts a terrific range of sports and play equipment including climbing nets and cubes, a skateboard practice ramp and a basketball court.

An array of outdoor fitness equipment has also been installed including a multi-exercise station for adults to use as well as youngsters. The seven refurbishment projects are part of a £2million programme of playground improvements taking place across the borough - joint funded by the council and the DCSF.

Each one has benefited from a major face-lift and has been kitted out with a wealth of challenging new equipment for children of all ages.

The locations are:
The Alton Activity Centre (SW15)
Wandsworth Park (SW15),
Bramford Road (SW18),

and further afield:
Heathbrook Park (SW8),
Latchmere Rec (SW11)
Upper Tooting (SW17),
and Tooting Garden (SW17).

Executive member for children's services Kathy Tracey said:
"We’re inviting local families to come and join in the celebrations as we officially open the latest batch of new and improved play spaces.  These first rate play facilities are essential if we want local children to grow up enjoying healthy outdoor fun and games.”

To date, a total of 19 local play spaces have been refurbished and kitted out with the latest apparatus as part of the council’s ongoing investment programme.

The next set of playgrounds in line for a revamp will be Garratt Park, Fishponds Playing Fields, Swaby Road, The Pleasance, Tooting Triangle and the Windmill One O'Clock Centre.
