148 New Homes For East Putney | |||
Council approved plans for redevelopment of disused office opposite tube station
The scheme would involve pulling down the outdated office buildings at 84-88 Upper Richmond Road and replacing them with 148 new homes alongside new shop, business, café, restaurant and leisure space. Thirty-four apartments would be set aside as affordable homes for local residents who cannot afford to buy on the open market. Children’s play areas would also be created alongside a new outdoor public space for community events like farmers markets. A mature London Plane Tree on the Upper Richmond Road frontage will be retained. As part of the planning consent the developer will contribute more than £1million towards local infrastructure upgrades including improvements to East Putney Tube Station and the adjacent railway bridges. A total of 168 bike and 65 car parking spaces would be created at basement level. Two parking bay would be set aside for car club vehicles. However earlier this year local residents & the Putney Society have voiced their concerns on the forum of this site regarding extra cars, traffic both on the roads & the transport systems plus the impact of height shadowing neighbouring residential roads. The council believes that around 170 full-time permanent jobs would be created once the scheme is complete. Wandsworth Council’s planning chairman Cllr Nick Cuff said: “This tired, empty office complex is the first thing people see when they step out of East Putney Station. The new development would be a vast improvement and offers a much better first impression of the town centre. “The scheme will bring a disused brownfield site back into use and comes with a hefty contribution towards smartening up the station. It will help us meet demand for new homes in this part of the borough and the extra jobs would be a welcome boost to the local economy.” To view the plans visits www.wandsworth.gov.uk/planning - the application reference number is 2010/5483.
