Foster Carers’ Pampering Day |
|||||
at the Best Western Hotel Putney - organised by the Children Services team
Foster carers from across Wandsworth are being treated to a luxurious day of pampering in thanks for their incredible work caring for local children. Guests will spend the day being attended to by beauty therapists and hair stylists, rounded off by a delicious meal and relaxing massage. There will also be a special prize giving ceremony where the borough’s longest serving carers will be honoured for their invaluable work. Wandsworth Council is currently responsible for the care of 215 young people who cannot live at home with their parents. Of these, 126 are being looked after by local foster carers. Council leader Edward Lister said, “We are deeply indebted to our foster carers. Their kindness and dedication means that our most vulnerable young people have a safe, supportive and loving place to stay when they need it the very most. They make an inspiring contribution to our community and I’m delighted to offer this small token of our thanks.” Carers will also be provided with goodie bags packed with special treats kindly donated by local businesses and community groups. The council is constantly in need of new foster carers to replace those who are retiring from fostering and to help look after the growing number of children in need of care.
Foster carers can be couples or single, but at least one must be aged between 25 and 60 and be in good health. Ideally they would live in or near Wandsworth. People who provide a foster home also receive weekly payments and allowances. Anyone interested in finding out more about the different fostering and adoption opportunities can contact the fostering service team on 0208 871-6666 or email carerrecruitment@wandsworth.gov.uk
