Since the closure of Wandsworth School, which was then demolished in the late 90s, the various war memorial plaques were either lost or destroyed. Over the last few years however, the Trustees of the Old Wandsworthians Memorial Trust have conducted a search for more and more information and recently we uncovered news clips and articles that have enabled us to have a new plaque created in memory of the fallen. St Cecilia’s School Wandsworth was built on the old grounds earlier this century and the Headmaster of the new school has agreed to the Trust erecting the new plaque inside the School building to be seen by pupils, staff and visitors on a daily basis.

The Trust is now planning to hold a Memorial Service for the152 former pupils and staff of Wandsworth School, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the two World Wars. The Service will be held on July the 8th this year.

The original services, noted below, were held at the Wandsworth County School, Sutherland Grove, Southfieldsee and the Bishop of Kingston and senior military personnel attended both ceremonies:-
World War 1 – (95 fell) unveiled by the Bishop of Kingston on the 9th November 1929.
World War 2 – (54 fell) unveiled by the late Air Chief Marshal Lord Dowding on the 11th November 1949.
