Geraldine Charles, Archivist at the National Maritime Museum, explains how she used WWI memorabilia bought on eBay to research the men and women to whom the objects relate.

Such items can be used as the starting point for family history research and Geraldine tells some of the stories that unfolded when she looked into the family background of the objects’ owners. She hopes to find new homes for the items, which range from papers, postcards and photographs to Trench Art and medals, as gifts to relevant Institutions or individuals.
