Detective Inspector Tim Scott, from Wandsworth borough, said:
"We are extremely concerned for Joshua as he has now been missing for nearly 48 hours and we have had no confirmed sightings of him.

"Joshua needs to take regular medication. Since leaving Springfield Hospital on Tuesday, where he is a patient, he has missed taking his medicine.

"Joshua has learning difficulties and may struggle to communicate with people. He does not like crowds and he is likely to be very frightened and confused.

"As far as we are aware he has no cash or other means to travel. I am urging residents to check their outbuildings or sheds, as I am very concerned that Joshua may seek to shelter from the weather. I would also ask that members of the public look out for Joshua in open spaces.

"We are extremely worried for Joshua as he lacks the ability to care for himself, and as such I would urge the public to be vigilant for him."

Joshua was last seen in the grounds of Springfield Hospital in Wandsworth at 16:50hrs on Tuesday, 24 February.

Joshua is described as white, about 6ft 1in tall and of a slim build. He has black unkempt hair with a long fringe covering his eyes. He also wears thick black rimmed glasses. At the time of his disappearance, Joshua was wearing a dark bomber-style jacket and dark tracksuit trousers. He was also wearing grey canvas shoes with a white soles.

If seen, Joshua is likely to avoid eye contact and he may tap the side of his head repetitively. Members of the public are urged to call police immediately on 999 should he be sighted.
