|Wimbledon Hawk Stolen
Pigeon deterrent for tennis championships was stolen last night
Officers from Wimbledon CID are investigating the theft of a bird used at Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships to patrol the skies and deter pigeons.
The Harrier hawk, named Rufus, was stolen together with its cage overnight between 28 and 29 June from a car parked in Dunstall Road, Wimbledon SW20.
The bird was in a car which was parked on a private drive with the rear window open for ventilation.
The working bird of prey deters pigeons purely by its presence.
Rufus (not in the photo) is also a family pet and the family has become very attached to the bird who is now four and a half years old. They are distressed over the theft and are appealing for help to recover the bird.
If anyone has any information about the theft or who may have the bird, they should contact Wimbledon CID on 020 8649 3118.
If the bird is seen in the local area, please call the owner on 07738 590 951.
