The Active Wandsworth Awards 2012 has been launched this week in a bid to recognise and reward the sporting achievements and dedication of local athletes, coaches, volunteers, clubs and teams.

The awards, now in its 16th year, provide a chance to reflect on and celebrate the triumphs of local Olympians and Paralympians, as well as the outstanding performances of amateur clubs and athletes as they all embrace a lasting sporting legacy created by the London 2012 Games.

There are a total of nine awards, recognising the following:
* Sports Personality (Under 13 and Under 25)
* Coach of the Year
* Volunteer of the Year
* Young Volunteer of the Year
* Outstanding Contribution to Sport
* Team of the Year
* Club of the Year
* Mayor's Award for Disability Sport

Councillor Jonathan Cook, the council's culture spokesman, said:
"2012 has been a fantastic year for sport so it is only right that we acknowledge those who have contributed to this success in some way. If you know someone - or a group of people - based in the borough that has a sporting story that deserves to be celebrated then I would urge you to nominate them."

Nominations are now open and entries must be received before December 21st. Nomination forms can be downloaded by visiting www.wandsworth.gov.uk/active or by calling 0208 8718154.
