A huge range of free education and training sessions have been unveiled to give people of all abilities and backgrounds opportunities to learn new skills and get ahead in life.

Wandsworth Council’s Learning Works programme aims to offer a variety of different classes and workshops to the borough’s residents over the coming weeks.

Whether it is first aid, computing, confidence building or circus skills, there are sessions to match all ambitions.

The council’s lifelong learning team, along with other organisations in the borough – such as South Thames College, Aspire Centre, Saint Francis Xavier College, Putney School of Art and Design and Battersea Chapel – are launching a range of taster classes and open days to mark Adult Learners’ Week and National Family Week.

From Saturday, May 18, to Friday, May 24, Adult Learners’ Week will be acknowledged through sessions and workshops teaching singing, computer skills, languages, art, music, fitness and specialist skills like massage and floristry.

The national week-long event celebrates the benefits of lifelong learning by creating opportunities to explore the many types of learning available to all adults.

Then, National Family Week, which runs from Monday, May 27, until Sunday, June 2, will see workshops and events take place to suit all ages. These include family sessions on language development, storytelling, art and exercise.

Wandsworth’s executive member for education, Councillor Kathy Tracey, said: “Along with our educational partners in the borough, we want to create as many opportunities as possible for people to learn a new skill, take a step towards a new career – or simply have fun with friends and family by trying something different.
