Residents can celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Queen’s Coronation by holding a street party next month.

As was the case with the 2011 royal wedding and last summer’s Diamond Jubilee, the council has stripped away all the red tape and fees for people who want to celebrate this royal milestone with a street party.

They can be staged free of charge over the weekend of July 13 & 14 when the nation officially celebrates The Queen’s accession to the throne in 1953.

So far residents in 17 streets across the borough have made the arrangements to hold their parties that weekend, while five events were held last weekend to mark the actual date of the Coronation.

The normal £50 fee for arranging a road closure has been waived, while all the other information required can be submitted online via a simple internet questionnaire.

This simplified system means there is nothing to stop residents setting up tables and chairs and staging a great neighbourhood get-together to mark this historic royal event.

Residents are being reminded that not all streets in the borough can be closed for a party – only those that will not have an impact on the wider road network. The council also has no authority to close red routes and Transport for London are unlikely to allow roads covered by bus routes to close.
