The borough’s festive celebrations continue next week when Southfields hosts its very first Christmas lights switch-on ceremony.

The inaugural event will see Philip Brook, chairman of The All England Lawn Tennis Club, turn on the Christmas lights in Southfields Village on Monday, December 3.

Anyone wanting to welcome in the festive season by watching the switch on ceremony can do so at 5pm next to Southfields Tube Station.

The event has been made possible by the generous support of the All England Club – under an agreement with the Southfields Business Association.

Philip Brook, chairman of the All England Club, said: “2012 marked 90 years of shared history between Southfields Village and The Championships and we are pleased to be broadening our support for the local community in this way.”

The council’s cabinet member for economic development and business partnerships, Councillor James Cousins, said:
“I hope Southfields residents will come out to celebrate the village’s first festive lights switch-on – and support local businesses at the same time.”

Further festive celebrations are due to take place later in the month when, on December 15, children visiting the village will be able to meet Father Christmas – and even pick up an early Christmas present from the man himself.

In addition, visitors will also have the chance to vote for the best shop window dressing in the village, as well as enjoy mince pies and mulled wine while they do their Christmas shopping.
