Faces of Britain gives you a chance to be a picture of history
It's not quite Dr. Who but a new internet site is hoping to provide a virtual time capsule of the British public, in time for the 2012 Olympic Games. The Faces of Britain website, www.facesofbritain.co.uk, is inviting the public to upload a photo of themselves free-of-charge onto a grid that contains space for 212 members of their local community. The website will permanently display the photos as a lasting reminder for those who will experience the events of 2012. On completion, grids will be available to purchase as a commemorative poster or large-scale print. They will be on offer for free to charities, community centres and libraries. Katie Sanders, co-founder, said: "2012 is going to be an amazing year and will unquestionably be history in the making. We want to give people the opportunity to say 'we were there' via an enduring reminder and thought this website was the perfect way to do so. "Once your local grid is filled we will make posters and large-scale prints of it available to buy, both for the individuals taking part and organisations with a commitment to the community. “With so much on offer, whatever you're looking forward to in 2012 this is your chance to be a part of it, simply at the touch of a button." Faces of Britain comprises a total of 433 grids, representing each geographical local authority across the UK.
