Frankie's it is true to say is a bit off the beaten path on the way to Wandsworth (if you live in West Putney that is!)and is rather unassuming from the outside giving nothing away about the dramatic interior harking back to the days of molls and dolls of Chicago in the 1920's - smokey mirrors and disco balls.

Having been down to interview the Manger Diego Vargas I gave in to temptation and booked a table to check out the menu and use the 20% discount voucher! The four of us strolled in on a Wednesday evening expecting the place to be rather empty, to find it over half full with a mixture of couples of varying ages and groups of four.

Celebrating a birthday we commenced with a glass of Prosecco (5.50 per glass or £25 a bottle) whilst we checked out the menu. The Prosciutto with figs and the Bresaola with mozzarella were both generous portions and very tender & tasty (£7.75) whilst the chicory, pear, walnut and gorgonzola salad (£6.50) got the thumbs up from the Blonde's Husband (move over AA Gill I to can have a Blonde!). The starters were accompanied by a fabulously chilled bottle of Campo Nuevo Viura (£16.50) this was a dry light wine and was swiftly followed by another two bottles - quality control is important we felt!

The main courses did not let us down and the generous portions continued. A tender 22oz T-bone with salad and bearnaise sauce (£22.50) & Frankie's crispy duck with olives also came with salad (£13.50) were ordered off the Specials Section - the latter living up to its name served on olives with garlic and sauteed potatoes. A bottle of Tempranillo Campo Buevo (£16.50) was a full bodied with aromas of red fruits and raspberries with a hint of truffles. From the normal menu the grilled poussin with chipolatas (£12.50)came with a salad and the Spaghettini Sorrentine (tomato with chunks of mozzarella (£10.50) were equally well received and and left little room for a dessert.

But there are some amongst us who cannot refuse a dessert -my husband knows who he is! And the New York cheesecake with passion fruit sauce and vanilla Panacotta with strawberries poached in Prosecco ordered by Mr & Mrs Blonde hit the spot and I did succumb to fresh mango with maraschino all at £5.50.

The staff were very attentive and prompt throught the evening and they booked a cab for us whilst we settled up using the afore mentioned 20% discount voucher - and to our delight we were then given a Frankie's TLC card giving us 20% off food & wine at any Frankie's restaurant and even special rates if you book the private room for a party - now I will have no excuse to come again with my children who eyes will light up at the pizza, pasta and burger sections whilst I can still have choice for my more mature palate!
