We turned up keen to put in the performance that might win us the division but some right heavy rain thwarted us.

We won the toss and put them in, old men and boys. If the former weren't going to score the runs then the latter weren't either against a sound Putney attack.

A straightforward catch at second slip of Murad was grassed in the first over by Julian but it mattered not much as Piers swung in to ensure they had no sort of start against us. Runs were very hard to come by but then some edges went their way and the heady heights of 39-2 were reached. But Paul McCann found the ball of the day to clip the top of off and Pat held a high wide and handsome edge. Doug pouched a sharp one at slip off Hugo, Brian kept the pressure up and was thrice rewarded. When the rain came they were 96-9 and the game was ours if we ever got back on. That was not possible. We went blackberry picking instead.

Hampton and Ironsides also abandoned. So it boils down to next week. Beat Ewhurst and we go up as champs. If we don't, then we still go up provided one of Hampton and Ironsides also fail to win. Simples.
