Many local business owners feel they are tilting at windmills but trading conditions have proven so tough for one local restaurant they have decided to relocate.

Fans of La Mancha tapas restaurant on the High Street will be disappointed to hear that the establishment is now closed. The owners are planning to move to new premises in Chiswick after being in Putney for 23 years.

In a statement on their web site they say, "The team at La Mancha would like to say a big thank you to all of our supporters. It's been an amazing run on Putney High Street."

The closure of the restaurant was marked by a farewell party at the weekend.

The premises are to be taken over by The Toy Shop which unconfirmed reports suggest is actually a restaurant rather than a shop selling toys.

The news hasn't been all bad for lovers of this particular type of cuisine as Spanish restaurant Alquimia has opened on Putney Wharf recently to rave reviews.
