In recent years, a number of studies have established the link between poor air quality and health in urban areas. Road, air and rail transport, shipping, domestic, commercial heating, industry and power generation all generate polluting emissions; while natural sources including wind-blown sea salt, sand or soil also contribute to air pollution levels.

Last year the Mayor announced his ambition for London, ‘Vision 2020’, which included meeting European Union limits for air pollutants. This is a challenge for London’s transport network, recent modelling has indicated approximately half the emissions of most concern are from rail and road transport. That proportion is even greater in central London, where human exposure is also at its highest.

Following the Ultra Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ) stakeholder event on Monday 3 March, the TfL announced that they have launched an online survey seeking the views of the public & stakeholders to capture the views of stakeholders and the public on the issue of Air Quality in London.

The survey will be open until the 13 April 2014, and can be accessed via the link below:

Assembly member for Putney Richard Tracey said: "This is very welcome research and will be of interest to those close to Putney High Street and probably other busy areas of Wandsworth"
