Local United Nations Association to Discuss Iran

The Wandsworth branch of the United Nations Association (UNA) will host a public talk exploring the background, history, and current situation in Iran. The event will take place on Tuesday 23 September from 7:30pm to 9:30pm at Community Church Putney, Werter Road, ( SW15 2LL), and will feature speakers from the International Liberty Association (ILA), a UK-based human rights charity.
Chaired by Robert Storey, the evening will include presentations by Masoud Ahmadi and Ahmad Ebrahimi, both of whom have long-standing involvement in human rights advocacy related to Iran. Ahmadi, an economist and IT consultant by profession, has worked voluntarily with the ILA since at least 2017, focusing on campaigns to end executions in Iran—particularly those involving minors—and supporting Iranian dissidents formerly based in Camp Ashraf and Camp Liberty in Iraq. He previously spoke at Conway Hall in London on the role of Iran’s rulers in the country’s human rights record.
The International Liberty Association has been active in documenting abuses, campaigning against child marriage and capital punishment, and supporting displaced Iranian activists. Its work has included producing reports and organising public awareness events across the UK.
The Wandsworth UNA branch, part of a nationwide network affiliated with UNA-UK, regularly convenes public discussions on international affairs, human rights, and global governance. Past events have addressed topics ranging from climate justice to refugee protection, with a focus on promoting informed civic engagement and dialogue.
The local UNA has been in existence for more than 60 years. It was started when World War II was fresh in people's minds and the need for a new world order in the form of the United Nations was seen as imperative. Today its function remains to inform people about the UN, to support its work, to challenge that work when necessary and to lobby the UK Government.
The group holds three public meetings a year and the Committee chooses topical subjects of concern to the UN and relating to world affairs, booking experts in appropriate fields.
This upcoming event continues the branch’s commitment to spotlighting global human rights issues and fostering community understanding of international developments. Admission is free and open to all.
