Stage Mother, Mama Rose, pushes daughters June and Louise into a vaudeville career. Rose pins her hopes for fame on June, while Louise reluctantly plays second string.

Herbie, the girls' agent, falls in love with Rose but the relationship doesn't work out. June escapes the act to get married, and Rose puts the unwilling Louise in the star spot.
However, vaudeville is dying and soon the only booking they can get is in a burlesque house, which provides a startling career change for Louise … and Rose!
