St Mary’s Church will welcome the French vocal ensemble Melodiam Meam for an evening of choral music on Saturday 7 March at 7.30pm, offering audiences a rare chance to hear a visiting choir from Brittany perform alongside the church’s own adult choir.

The ensemble, based in north-west France, will present a varied programme ranging from Renaissance works and Rachmaninov to contemporary choral pieces, performed both a cappella and with piano. Their visit marks a cultural exchange between the two choirs and brings a distinctly European flavour to St Mary’s spring music calendar.

The concert will also feature Gabriel Fauré’s Cantique de Jean Racine, one of the most cherished works in the French sacred repertoire. In addition, the programme includes music composed by St Mary’s Director of Music, Richard Quesnel, written during his time as Director of Music at the basilica of Sainte-Anne-d’Auray in Brittany — a fitting link between the visiting singers and their hosts.

St Mary’s Adult Choir will join Melodiam Meam for part of the performance, making the evening a collaborative celebration of shared musicianship.

The concert is free to attend, and the church is encouraging local residents to bring friends and family to support both the home choir and their guests from France.
