Pupils at schools in the area have been preparing to make their own lanterns with help from arts company Emergency Exit Arts – and they will get the chance to show off their creations next Thursday, December 20th.

Lantern processions will parade through streets near the town centre before congregating on the green outside Roehampton Library at 4.30pm, where everyone present will be invited to join in the celebrations by singing well-known Christmas carols.

Song sheets will be available and the carols will be led by local choirs. Organisers are calling on anyone who is feeling festive to head to the library to sing some songs.

Over the next week Emergency Exit Arts will hold lantern-making workshops at Sacred Heart RC Primary School, Heathmere Primary School and Eastwood Nursery School.

In addition, should any other local people want to get involved with the procession, an open workshop will take place at Roehampton Library on Wednesday, December 19, from 4pm to 6pm.

The lantern procession is backed by Wandsworth Council’s arts team and the borough’s public health team.
