At the Putney Exchange shopping centre this Friday

The organisers behind a huge cycle ride that will pass through Putney later this summer are inviting residents and businesses to learn more about the event at drop-in sessions.

Prudential RideLondon – a weekend festival of cycling taking place in the capital on Saturday, August 3, and Sunday, August 4 – features two bike rides that go through Putney on the Sunday.

Two public information sessions have been arranged so local people can find out about the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100, which is for up to 20,000 amateur and club riders, and the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic involving the top international professional men.

RideLondon representatives will be at the Putney Exchange shopping centre this Friday, June 21, from 3pm to 7pm to answer any questions residents and businesses may have, including how the event will affect travel in the area.

A second session will take place at Putney Library between 5pm and 8pm on Friday, July 12.

Both rides go along Wimbledon Park Side, Tibbet's Ride, Putney Hill and over Putney Bridge via the High Street, so there will inevitably be some road closures and associated disruption to travel on the day.

The two day festival of cycling is part of the post 2012 Olympic and Paralympic legacy and aims to give a major boost to the number of active cyclists in the UK, while attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors to London and Surrey.

Highlights of the weekend's action and live coverage of the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic will be shown by the BBC.
