What is a well designed building? Do we have any locally? And why does this matter for the future of Putney?

The latest Government planning rules (the NPPF) and Wandsworth’s equally new Local Plan both say that new buildings, particularly the taller ones, must be well designed, and in some cases allow breaches of height limits or other rules for schemes that are ‘well designed’, but neither says what this means. Needless to say the developers wanting to fill Putney with large blocks of flats claimed their schemes are ‘Good Design’, generally with little to support the claim.

But until now nobody has asked the residents of Putney what you think. This Members’ Meeting will be your opportunity to help us define what Putney calls ‘Good Design’. To start the debate we have called on a range of local figures to give one example each of good and bad design, but then we want to hear from YOU.
