Raising money for Hestia Women's Refuge charity
The concert on Sunday will feature a full brass band and the critically acclaimed combined church choirs of All Saints’ and St Mary’s Putney performing the nation’s best-loved hymns. This is the latest in a series of concerts which All Saints’ Putney has hosted for local charities.
Hestia Women’s Refuge was set up in 1970, in response to the proliferation of street homelessness in the late 1960s. The charity – which covers 12 London boroughs including Wandsworth – provides accommodation for victims of domestic abuse, including an average of 230 women and 280 children at any one time.
Kate Innes, concert organiser and Putney resident, said: “We are so excited to be able to put on an uplifting concert in a beautiful venue at a time of the year when everyone needs a bit of a pick-me-up. The added benefit is that this concert will raise money for a wonderful charity which helps victims of domestic abuse in London.
“We are incredibly grateful to All Saints’ Putney for lending us their premises and choir for the event. Everyone is welcome to hymn-along-for-Hestia, whether they have the voice of an angel or not!”
