Major outdoor event brings together professional artists and community performers
September 2, 2025 Preparations are well underway for Urban Flow, a large-scale outdoor arts event scheduled to take place in Roehampton on Saturday 13 September. The initiative brings together professional artists and community performers in a public procession that will feature contemporary dance, martial arts, and live soundscapes. Rehearsals began in August, with groups including Tavaziva Dance and Roehampton University’s dance ensemble developing choreography for the event. The procession will begin at Parkstead House at 2:00pm and travel through Roehampton, pausing at several locations for scheduled performances. Stops include Homsley House, Focus Hall, and Mount Clare, culminating in a final display at Downshire Field (Bull Green) around 3:15pm. Stalls and music will continue at Bull Green until 5:00pm. The event is free to attend and open to all. Urban Flow is part of a wider programme marking Wandsworth’s designation as London Borough of Culture. It involves collaboration between international and UK-based organisations, including India’s Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts, arts charity Kinetika, and Tavaziva Dance. The project includes contributions from over 100 local residents and incorporates silk artworks as part of the visual presentation. Coinciding with the event, Roehampton Library will unveil its first mural, titled The Four Seasons, created by artist Adalberto Lonardi. The mural was developed through community workshops and reflects local landmarks, architecture, and natural features. It aims to represent Roehampton’s identity through shared memories and imagery. Urban Flow also features in The Wandsworth Way, a 40-part radio drama produced by Riverside Radio in collaboration with Theatre503. The series explores local stories and includes a segment on novelist Tash Defoe’s involvement in the event. Episodes air weekly on Sundays at 5pm. Volunteers are being invited to support the event, which organisers describe as a collaborative effort to celebrate movement, culture, and community in Roehampton. You can register as a volunteer for this or other upcoming community events on this link.
