Last Sunday Amref Health Africa brought the flavour of Kenya to our CEO Samara Hammond’s home, in Putney to launch our new fundraising campaign Nyama Choma. The event brought together more than 80 attendees, made up of supporters and corporate partners of the charity, who enjoyed some tasty Kenyan treats in the glorious sunshine.

In Swahili, the phrase Nyama Choma translates as “barbecued meat” but in Kenya it means much more than that: bringing communities together and celebrating good times. Amref Health Africa is asking its supporters to host their own Nyama Choma BBQ throughout the summer in order to help us raising money to train health workers across Sub-Saharan Africa.

We want you to gather your community together and contribute to our work. We’ll provide recipes and materials to help you host a Nyama Choma event. We are asking our hosts to provide the food so that your guests can give a donation for their meal, This means a simple barbecue can help your community have a direct impact on the health of communities across Africa.

Amref Health Africa is Africa’s leading health development organisation, bringing health care closer to those who need it most. Headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, Amref Health Africa is a truly African organisation whose vision is lasting health change in Africa.
