Due to a sewer failure on Putney High Street SW15 outside 14-16 (Wahoo Sports Bar), urgent works need to be carried out at this location beginning 6th August (after the Ride London event this weekend).

These works are expected to cause serious disruption in Putney and the surrounding areas. Motorists and cyclists are advised to take extra care and consider alternative routes.

The proposed traffic management plan is to maintain 2 lanes northbound by reducing Putney High Street to one lane southbound using the southbound running lane as an additional northbound lane. All southbound traffic will have to use the bus lane which will be suspended, along with the bus stop outside the Odeon cinema. Contingency traffic management plans may be put in place on football match days (Fulham and Chelsea home games), subject to traffic conditions.

Thames Water said:
" As the sewer is buried deep underground, we need to dig an access pit in the road so we can bore out a new section of sewer pipe. To do this safely and efficiently, we need to close 20 metres of the two left-hand, City bound, traffic lanes. We’ll also be digging down by hand to avoid the huge number of other underground service cables and pipes."

"To get the job done quickly, we’ll be working every day, between 7am and 11pm. Our teams will also be managing the traffic lights during busy times to keep vehicles moving as best we can. We’ll work hard to keep noise and disruption to a minimum, especially at night."

The works should last for 3-4 weeks dependent on ground conditions.
