Welcome to our new PC Chris COOK who has joined us from the 24/7 response team based at Lavender Hill, Battersea.
We are here specifically to address local, non-emergency issues that affect your quality of life. We are tasked with patrolling your ward, getting to know the people who live and work here and listening to the issues that are important to you. Please stop and speak to us if you see us walking around or contact the team on the number or email address below. To report a crime please attend Jubilee House on Putney High Street next to the Odeon Cinema. Our office hours are Monday to Friday 1100–1400 and Saturday 1000–1400. Outside of these hours please attend Wandsworth Police Station on West Hill.
Ward Meeting
Our next ward meeting will be held on Tuesday 11th November 2008 at 7pm. It will be at Putney High School, Putney Hill. This is an open invitation for everyone to come along. It is a chance for you to meet your local Safer Neighbourhood Team, voice your concerns and find out what your local SNT have done since our last meeting. We hope to see as many of you there as possible.
Putney High School World Record
On Tuesday 29th April 2008 pupils at Putney High School attempted to break the World Record for the number of participants in a game of "Musical Statues". East Putney Safer Neighbourhoods Team were there to adjudicate along with Justine Greening, MP for Putney, Roehampton and Southfields. The special event was organised by Deputy Head Girl Flo Ware to promote an active healthy lifestyle.
PCSO's Paul Henry, Alison Brownlow and Sandra Simoni attended as witnesses to the event where 758 pupils aged between 4-18 years old successfully smashed the previous record of 265 people.
St Michael’s C of E Primary School
On Saturday 7th June 2008 St Michaels C.E. Primary School held their Summer Fete in the playing fields on Viewfield Road SW18. The fete offered a variety of events including a fancy dress competition, sack races, water balloon games and tug 'o' war for the children. In addition there was a coconut shy, bouncy castle, bouncy slides, a set of stocks where the person in the stock had water soaked sponges thrown at them, a variety of stalls selling everything from food to clothing and a raffle.
East Putney SNT had been invited to participate in the days events. They set up a stall offering crime prevention advice, personal safety advice for young people and members of the public were able to have their phones marked with a UV pen. On a lighter note the kids could try on police hats and have their fingerprint taken as a momento of the day they met the Met.
A highly successful day for the school and one that the East Putney SNT thoroughly enjoyed being a part of.
Street Meeting Update
On Saturday 12th April 2008 East Putney Safer Neighbourhoods Team held three very successful street meetings dedicated to motor vehicle crime prevention. They were held at three different locations across the entire ward in order to provide all residents the opportunity to speak to our team. At each meeting we distributed laminated vehicle crime prevention cards stating "Nothing of value has been left in this vehicle" and other associated literature. The card also gives valuable advice in the form of an easy to read checklist on the rear of the card.
The street meetings were held at St Johns Avenue, Rusholme Road and West Hill Road throughout the day and many residents came out to discuss their concerns. As well as the laminated card we provided a motor vehicle crime prevention pack containing an 'Immobilise.com' leaflet (free internet service to record personal items of value), a UV property marking pen and general crime prevention advice.
Neighbourhood Watch Re-Launch
On Wednesday 28th May, members of East Putney SNT in conjunction with Wandsworth Council re-launched the neighbourhood watch for Gwendolen Avenue. The meeting was held at St Simon’s Church at 7.30pm and was attended by 10 residents. Charles McGinley was named as the neighbourhood watch co-ordinator for the area.
Motor Vehicle Crime
Lately we have had an increase in motor vehicle crime. Please follow these tips to stop yourself being a victim.
- Satellite Navigation equipment is becoming more popular with thieves. Remove portable sat nav’s and their cradles when you leave the vehicle. Remember to wipe suction pad marks from the windscreen or dashboard, as thieves will look out for these.
- Don’t leave equipment in the glove compartment. Thieves will usually check this first.
- Make sure your vehicle is locked securely.
- Report any suspicious behaviour around vehicles to the police immediately.
- Use car parks that are part of the Police approved Safer Parking scheme those that display the official ‘Park Mark’ sign. For details visit www.saferparking.com.
We have increased our patrols around the area but please let us know if you have any information regarding this issue.

To protect your mobile phone as well as other property with a serial number visit the website www.immobilise.com and register your items for free. By registering your property you stand a much better chance of getting it back if it is lost or stolen. Millions have already done so.
The IMEI number of your mobile phone is printed on a label usually found behind the phone’s battery. It is also stored electronically within the handset:

When you register any property the details are entered into the Immobilise database. This information is then available to all UK police officers who regularly search the database when goods are recovered. Not only have you a better chance of having your property returned but it assists the police in getting a successful prosecution.
