Budding actress India Eisley takes on the role that made her mother a star
Filming has been taking place in Putney High Street as the epic love story of Romeo & Juliet gets a modern twist in the forthcoming movie 'Social Suicide', produced by Putney resident Janet Wells.
The movie is set in modern day with the star crossed lovers contending with social media as well as parental pressures.
In an interview with The Times Social Media Editor Nicholas Hellen, Janet said that the film was inspired in part by her personal experiences as she observed the impact of social media on her sons aged 12 and 16, her daughter, 14, and their friends. As the film twitter account sayd "Hits aren't Friends".
Janet said:
“There may not be the same social taboos about getting together as there were with the Montagues and the Capulets, but nothing is private any more. For a teenager, everything in their personal life can change in an instant. One misplaced photo can lead to lifelong embarrassment; a text which goes unanswered can plunge them into despair.”
Juliet renamed at Julia is being played by 20 year old India Eisley, (pictured left) who is the daughter of Olivia Hussey who shot to stardom aged 16 in her role of Juliet in Franco Zeffirelli's Romeo & Juliet in 1968. Also in the cast is Dr Who's Madame Vastra aka Neve McIntosh.
