Rush hour commuters in Putney were treated to an impromptu celebrity encounter when Stormzy’s £400,000 Ferrari 4x4 ran out of petrol in the middle of Putney High Street, causing a brief traffic jam and a burst of street-level excitement this Friday (17 October).
Rather than accepting offers of a push from passersby, the rapper chose to wait for recovery — a process that took nearly 40 minutes. In the meantime, he turned the mishap into a moment of joy, filming himself singing “Oh Happy Day” from the driver’s seat and telling fans, “You have to smile through the pain… if you don’t laugh, you cry.”
Stormzy posted Instagram stories inviting locals to a “meet-and-greet on Putney High Road,” joking: “Bring a pen if you want me to sign some s**t. I ain’t got no pen.” Fans quickly gathered around the car, snapping selfies and teasing him about the breakdown. One passer-by quipped, “It’s your fault for buying a s**t car!” — a comment Stormzy met with laughter.
He singled out a woman from Rush Hair Salon for her kindness and thanked fellow rapper Skeamer for coming to his rescue. While waiting, Stormzy reportedly relaxed in a nearby library and sipped tea.
