In addition today Network Rail today also announced a pioneering survey of passenger opinion

Over the five years 2,000 stations will benefit from an improvement drive which aims to deliver new passenger information systems, lifts and stairways, toilets, waiting rooms, longer platforms and new ticket halls.

Stations managed by Network Rail should ‘showcase good british design and safeguard our heritage,' and ‘act as a hub for the development of our major cities,' according to the companies Action Stations ten point plan.

Putney, Bromsgrove, Leicester, Maidstone East, Manchester Victoria, Nottingham, Oxford and Reading Green Park will get over £10m. Birmingham New Street, Edinburgh Waverley, and the capital's Blackfriars, King's Cross and London Bridge will benefit from improvements worth over £100m each. Schemes for Glasgow Central, Farringdon, Cannon Street and Paddington will receive over £20million.
