Putney High School’s Class of 2026 is celebrating an exceptional year of A Level results, with students securing places at leading universities across the UK, the United States and Europe. The cohort achieved 94% of grades at A*–B, with one in six students earning three or more A* grades and 10% progressing to Oxford or Cambridge.

The results reflect a year of academic strength across the curriculum, with students heading into fields ranging from Anthropology with Innovation and Product Design to Marine Biology and Economics & Management. Oxford, Durham, Edinburgh, Exeter and Bristol were among the most popular destinations, with students choosing courses such as Ecological & Environmental Sciences, Cancer Biology & Immunology and Economics & Management.

Two students have secured highly competitive sports scholarships to US universities. Katherine will join Duke University on a rowing scholarship, while Annabel has been awarded a tennis scholarship at the University of Delaware.

Putney’s international reach continues to grow, with Sophie and Chiara heading to IE University in Madrid, and Victoria and Alexandra progressing to Bocconi University in Milan, one of Europe’s leading institutions for economics and business.

STEM subjects remained a particular strength. In Physics, 77% of grades were awarded at A*–A, and students will go on to study Medicine at Oxford, Manchester, King’s College London and Queen’s University Belfast. Other STEM destinations include Biochemistry at Oxford, Architectural Engineering at Sheffield and Neuroscience at UCL.

Putney’s Oxbridge successes span a wide range of disciplines, including Physics, Classics & English, Classical Archaeology & Ancient History, English Language & Literature at Oxford, and English and Law at Cambridge.

GB Olympic Junior Development Squad cyclist Gabriella has secured a place at Loughborough University to study Sports Science, balancing elite sport with academic study.

There was double celebration for the Hudson family, with twins Emma and Sophie both heading to their first-choice destination, the University of Exeter, to study Psychology and Geography respectively. Another set of twins, Layla and Molly also celebrated their results with Layla on her way to Manchester and Molly off to Durham.

Putney students also excelled in creative and humanities subjects:

  • 100% A*A in French, German, Italian and Latin
  • 100% A* in History of Art
  • 95% A*A in Geography
  • 87% A*A in History

Students will go on to study creative courses including Film Studies, History of Art and Fashion Marketing at Russell Group universities such as Exeter, Manchester and Leeds. Head Student Mia will join the University of St Andrews to study International Relations.

Headteacher Jo Sharrock praised the Class of 2026 for their academic achievement and their contribution to school life.

“Congratulations to our Class of 2026. They are such a talented cohort, who really embraced the joy of learning, working incredibly hard over the past two years to achieve this fantastic set of A Level results. They were a tremendous support to one another, and they contributed so much to our school community.”

Ms Sharrock added that she was proud of the “intelligent, innovative and empathetic young women” celebrating their results, saying she was confident they would “keep the Putney spirit alive” as they move on to universities across the world.

“I know their impact will be felt far and wide as they go on to achieve wonderful things throughout their lives in higher education and beyond.”
