Aiming to learn from Wandsworth's integrated support model
September 13, 2025 Wandsworth Council welcomed an international delegation this week as Sarawak's Deputy Minister for Women and Early Childhood Development, the Honourable Datuk Hajah Rosey binti Haji Yunus, visited Roehampton Family Hub to learn more about the borough’s approach to supporting children and families. The visit by the group from one of the states that make up Malaysia, held on Thursday 11 September, was part of a wider fact-finding mission focused on early years development and family support services. Wandsworth was selected as an example of best practice, with its Family Hub model offering a joined-up approach that brings health, education, and community services together under one roof. The Deputy Minister and her delegation met with families, staff, and partner organisations including health visitors, Places to Be, Rackets Cubed, the Family Nurse Partnership, and children’s centre teams. The tour highlighted how the hub operates in alignment with the national Best Start for Life strategy, which aims to ensure children receive the right support at the right time. Speaking during the visit, Datuk Hajah Rosey said, “I am delighted to see first-hand how Wandsworth’s Family Hubs are delivering such comprehensive and accessible support for children and families. The integrated approach, with services working together in one place, is inspiring and provides valuable lessons that we can take home to strengthen our own support systems for families in Malaysia.” Councillor Judi Gasser, Wandsworth’s Cabinet Member for Children, welcomed the opportunity to share the borough’s work with international colleagues. “We are proud to showcase the work happening in our Family Hubs, which puts children and families at the heart of what we do, engaging with over 4,700 families a year. It is an honour to know that what we are building here in Wandsworth can inspire best practice around the world.” The Roehampton Family Hub is one of several across the borough designed to offer accessible, wraparound support to families, particularly during the early years. The visit marks growing international interest in Wandsworth’s integrated model, which continues to evolve in response to local needs. The Roehampton Family Hub is open weekdays from 9am-5pm.
