Warning Given About Major Putney High Street Roadworks |
|
Both electricity and water companies will be digging up road by Metro Bank
October 17, 2025 Traffic disruption is expected in central Putney from Saturday 25 to Wednesday 29 October, as UK Power Networks and Thames Water carry out coordinated infrastructure upgrades outside 87 Putney High Street, near the junction with Montserrat Road. The works will involve multi-way temporary traffic signals and a lane closure to allow for a pedestrian walkway while the footpath is closed. Traffic management will be in place 24/7 throughout the works, with active construction taking place daily between 08:00 and 18:00. UK Power Networks will be connecting new electricity supplies in the footway on 25–26 October. Thames Water will be installing service connections from 25–29 October. Both utilities are working under a “dig-once” approach to minimise disruption and avoid future repeat excavations. The roadworks coincide with the October half-term holiday for most London schools, which runs from Monday 27 to Friday 31 October . While this may reduce school-run traffic, the area is still expected to be busy with local families, shoppers, and visitors taking advantage of the break. Access to nearby properties and businesses will be maintained throughout the works. However, drivers and pedestrians should expect delays and reduced footpath access. The council and utility providers have apologised for any inconvenience and emphasised the long-term benefits of the upgrades. For queries:
Residents are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra time for travel through Putney High Street during the works.
